Over the next few weeks we will be adding a new server to the AGL Host family. At the moment our new box is currently sitting in our office while we wait for the PSU to be shipped from Germany.

The new server will act as a shared Linux cPanel server. Once our PSU arrives, we will be installing the operating system then shipping the box up to the datacentre. The new server will provide plenty of storage space for new services – with 2x 1TB Samsung HDD’s.

Watch this space for updates.

With your AGL Host web hosting account we include a great feature which lets you also use your hosting account as a secure online file server . Via web Disk you can drag a drop files to your web server as if it was an extra hard disk attached to your computer.

Web Disk Features

Create a secure area to store and backup your valuable data.

Connect your Web Disk to your computer and drag and drop files to it as if it was simply a folder on your pc

Web Disk is a great alternative to using a USB flash drive. If you loose your flash drive, all your data is gone. With Web Disk your data is available to any computer connected to the internet

Supports Mac, Windows and Linux computers

Use Web Disk to replace your FTP program when adding files to your server. Use the familiar windows explorer interface rather than learning how to use a FTP program

How much does Web Disk Cost?

Nothing, we include this service free inside your cPanel account!

How to setup Web Disk

On your AGL Host cPanel account your Web Disk is already setup and ready to use, all you need to do is connect to it! To connect and start using your Web Disk, please complete the following:

Login to your cPanel at www.yoursite.co.uk/cpanel

Click on Web Disk

A form will now appear at the top of the page, complete this to create a new Web Disk account. The directory field will require you to name a folder where you would like to store your data

Once you have created your Web Disk account, a list of your accounts will appear at the bottom on the page, navigate to your desired Web Disk account and click on “Access Web Disk”

You will then be asked to select the operating system on your computer

Once you have selected your operating system, you will be automatically generated a secure connection file. This file will allow you to connect to your Web Disk. When prompted download the connection file.

Open the connection file on your computer. Your computer will now automatically connect to your Web Disk, you may be asked to enter the your login information which you created in Step 3

Done. You can now access your Web Disk on your AGL Host cPanel server. A great secure place to store and backup your valuable data. If you plan to store a lot of data on your Web Disk, please contact us if you require more storage space.

While we automatically backup all your website data for disaster recovery, it is always a good idea to regularly make your own website backups. You can never have too many backups!

Backing up your website could not be easier with cPanel. The server automates the process, the only real action is for you to effetely press the ‘go’ button.

Backup your webiste in cPanel

How to backup your website using cPanel:

Login to your cPanel control panel. Please go to www.yoursite.co.uk/cpanel

Click on “Backups”

Select “Download or generate a full website backup”
Selecting this option will backup everything associated with your web hosting account; all files, emails, databases, email filters, cron jobs. If you only want to backup a certain database for example, simply click on the database name which you wish to backup. We have found that using the cPanel database dump feature produces a smaller database dump file compared to PHPMYADMIN.

You will now be presented with a form asking for the destination of your website backup. You have two options here:

a. Store the backup on your web server itself. If you choose this option, your backup file will be zipped and placed in your FTP account ready for you to download. So simply login to your FTP server and you will see your backup file inside your FTP root. When you select this option, enter your email address and your web server will automatically email you when your download is ready for you to download.
b. Send the backup to a remote FTP server. If you have a FTP server in your office, you can tell your web server to automatically send the backup to your remote FTP server. Simply select “remote FTP server” and plug in your FTP server information.

Select “Generate Backup” when sit back and watch your server do all the hard work and backup your data.

Our Thoughts

cPanel is by the the easiest to use and most advanced control panel. Making backups are so easy. We strongly suggest that you backup your website on a regular basis – if you accidentally delete an important file, it is very handy knowing that you have a backup sitting safe. We also backup your data to our external storage repository’s, but its always a good idea to have multiple backups. After all, you may have paid thousands for your website, keep ti safe!

Over the last few weeks we have been busy designing our new website in partnership with our sister company JC Peters. We are now very pleased to announce that its now live!

We hope that you like using the new website, your thoughts and feedback are very welcome. Along with our new website a few moments ago we just released our new web hosting blog. Our previous WordPress blog has been successfully integrated into the new AGL Host website layout.

If you would like a new website like outs, please check out our sister company web design northampton @ JC Peters

A Few of the new features …

Along with the new design, we have revised several of our web hosting plans. Many of the plans have now been re-named, however the specs and costs have stayed the same.

In addition to this, we have also introduced a wide range of windows IIS web hosting plans. When you place an order with AGL Host you will now be asked if you would like a Windows web server or Linux cPanel server – the choice is yours.

We have hidden a few goodies!

On the new AGL Host website, we have also hidden a few goodies, scattered throughout the site are several coupon codes for money off your next web hosting order with us - can you find them?
