Backing up your website could not be easier with cPanel. The server automates the process, the only real action is for you to effetely press the ‘go’ button.
Backup your webiste in cPanel
How to backup your website using cPanel:
- Login to your cPanel control panel. Please go to www.yoursite.co.uk/cpanel
- Click on “Backups”
- Select “Download or generate a full website backup”
Selecting this option will backup everything associated with your web hosting account; all files, emails, databases, email filters, cron jobs. If you only want to backup a certain database for example, simply click on the database name which you wish to backup. We have found that using the cPanel database dump feature produces a smaller database dump file compared to PHPMYADMIN. - You will now be presented with a form asking for the destination of your website backup. You have two options here:
a. Store the backup on your web server itself. If you choose this option, your backup file will be zipped and placed in your FTP account ready for you to download. So simply login to your FTP server and you will see your backup file inside your FTP root. When you select this option, enter your email address and your web server will automatically email you when your download is ready for you to download.
b. Send the backup to a remote FTP server. If you have a FTP server in your office, you can tell your web server to automatically send the backup to your remote FTP server. Simply select “remote FTP server” and plug in your FTP server information. - Select “Generate Backup” when sit back and watch your server do all the hard work and backup your data.
Our Thoughts
cPanel is by the the easiest to use and most advanced control panel. Making backups are so easy. We strongly suggest that you backup your website on a regular basis – if you accidentally delete an important file, it is very handy knowing that you have a backup sitting safe. We also backup your data to our external storage repository’s, but its always a good idea to have multiple backups. After all, you may have paid thousands for your website, keep ti safe!
