Today we have been making a few updates to the website layout. On our home page we have now added a new offers block. This new section features some of the great website and email hosting solutions provided by AGL Host. Along with this, we have added a domains block on the home page introducing our latest domain name registration offers (You don’t have to be a AGL Host customer in order to register a domain name with us! We can forward your domain onto your own web server). We have also added a clearer support button, so if you need to get in contact with us – our support desk is easier to find!

We are also pleased to announce that an additional range of web hosting plans for businesses will be made live shortly. More and more of our web hosting clients are small/medium sized UK businesses, we have been listening to your requirements and are currently developing a specific range of hosting plans tailored for business use. Our business plans will feature a private IP address, free data backups, SSL, and a personal account manager who you will be given their direct phone number and email address.
The personal account manager will play a key part of our business hosting plans. If you have a problem, you don’t want to be stuck explaining your situation each time. The role of the account manager will be to stay up to date with your business developments, so if you do have a problem we have the right person in place to help you straight away.

At AGL Host we love the Apple iPhone. One of the best features is push email. With normal email applications, the program will manually contact the email server every 5 minutes so see if you have any new messages. Therefore if you are waiting for an important email, you wont get it instantly. This is the case for most desktop email programs running on your computer, such as Microsoft outlook and any mobile email apps
Push email is a great idea. If you get a email, the message is pushed down from the email server to your device instantly. So if you get a email to your iPhone, you will get notification that you have a email instantly. This feature is one of the selling points from Apple’s mobile me service. A very handy feature to have, however you have to use a email address @me.com. If you are running a business, this does not look very professional.

Over the years we have tried running several web hosting control panels for our clients, ranging from free control panels to paid ones. However from our experience, the best hosting control panel by far is cPanel.
cPanel offers a simple yet advanced user interface which is ideal for the web hosting beginner to the expert. Email accounts, databases and FTP accounts can be setup at the click on a button. Along with this, the backup feature is invaluable. Our clients using cPanel can backup everything on their server at the click of the mouse.
When we used to use other control panels we often received support requests asking how to setup a email address for example. Now that we provide cPanel with all web hosting plans by AGL Host, this is all a very simple process. As a result, we have less support request from our customers, therefore we can spend more time investing to build and improve our network. Therefore it could be argued that cPanel saves us money!
Only only minor niggle as a host is regarding the cost of a license. The cPanel license is not cheap. Considering cPanel runs on a linux box, and the whole principle of linux is that it is open source means cPanel breaks the rules! This means we cant offer the cheapest web hosting on the net, but what we do is offer is great quality and easy to use service.

When you are driving you often see a huge amount of builders and plumbers on the road that have their own vans with sign writing on the side publicising their business name and contact details etc. However, what we are always shocked about is the amount of plumbers vans etc that have their email address written on the side, they use a free address @hotmail.com or from the internet provider.
After you have spent several hundred pounds on having nice sign writing added to your van, you would expect the builder to have their own private email address at their own domain name for their business – for example bob@AAbuilders.co.uk.

You may spend a huge amount of time developing a great looking website, however if people cant find your website there is little point having it. A good search engine ranking is key. However it always seems a bit of a dark art of how to increase your search engine ranking.
Did you know, the IP address of the server which your website sits on can also affect your search engine ranking. With shared web hosting, several websites from different customers will sit on each server, all using the same IP address. This can have a negative affect on your search engine ranking. If another website on the server ends up getting banned by google, because they have the same IP address as you, this could have a negative affect on your search engine ranking. So no matter have much SEO work you are doing, it could end up a uphill struggle.
